The official red band trailer for the Faces of Death reboot premiered at IGN Fan Fest 2026, starring Barbie Ferreira and Charli XCX in a modern psychological thriller about a content moderator investigating viral murder videos.
The internet age of questionable viral media and digital rabbit holes is getting a major cinematic treatment. Recently showcased at IGN Fan Fest 2026, the official red band trailer for the upcoming Faces of Death film gives us our first real look at how the infamous original concept is being modernized for a generation raised on streaming algorithms and online sleuthing. The movie boasts a surprisingly plugged in cast featuring Dacre Montgomery, Barbie Ferreira, Charli XCX, Jermaine Fowler, and Josie Totah, signaling a strong appeal to modern digital native audiences.
The narrative hits close to home for anyone who spends their days scrolling through content feeds and community boards. Barbie Ferreira stars as a video platform content moderator who stumbles upon what appear to be modern re-enactments of murders inspired by the notorious original tape. As she digs deeper, the plot leans heavily into our current reality of deepfakes, viral shock value, and the constant digital blur between fiction and real time violence, forcing her to figure out what is actually happening behind the screen.
While the original 1978 movie relied on a mysterious reputation and the low resolution of early VHS trading to fuel its infamous is it real or not debate, this new adaptation adapts that central question for the streaming era. Content moderation, platform algorithms, and digital forensics make for a compelling modern backdrop, especially for viewers who live online and understand the terrifying speed at which unverified media spreads across social platforms. You can check out the original trailer over at IGN South Africa to see how the psychological thriller handles its modern update.
