Exodus Romance Options Will Not Be Gender-Locked for Leads

Archetype Entertainment confirmed that Exodus will feature non-gender-locked romances driven by player choice, bringing complex relationship dynamics to the upcoming sci-fi RPG.

IGN recently detailed how Archetype Entertainment is handling player relationships in the upcoming sci-fi RPG Exodus. Speaking with narrative director Drew Karpyshyn, the team confirmed that romance options will not be gender-locked for either the male or female versions of protagonist Jun Aslan. Players drive these interactions entirely, and the studio is aiming for complex relationship dynamics where initiatives matter and choices carry weight across your playthrough.

Karpyshyn noted that the system allows players to attempt multiple romances, though juggling them will not always go smoothly. Companion affinity shifts based on your decisions, forcing you into situations where you cannot make everyone happy. Crucially, the developers are treating these paths as role-playing relationships rather than mechanical systems tied directly to gameplay progression, keeping the focus squarely on narrative immersion.

Game director Chris King also touched on the tone of intimate scenes, describing them as tasteful and reserved while remaining clear to players who appreciate that aspect of classic BioWare storytelling. With Exodus currently slated to launch on April 7, 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, RPG fans have plenty to look forward to as the release window approaches.
