Evercade Reveals Next-Gen Nexus Handheld Featuring Analogue Sticks and Bundled Banjo-Kazooie

Evercade has unveiled the Nexus, its next-gen retro handheld featuring the line's first analogue sticks and a bundled Banjo-Kazooie cartridge, launching in October.

Retro gaming hardware specialist Evercade has announced its next-generation handheld, the Nexus, launching this October with a major hardware shift for the platform. As reported by Matt Wales over at Eurogamer, the Nexus introduces dual analogue sticks to the Evercade family for the first time. This addition opens the door for smoother emulation of 3D titles like Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain, moving beyond the d-pad limitations of previous models like the EXP-R. To highlight the hardware upgrade, the device comes bundled with an Evercade cartridge featuring both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie.

Beyond the analogue sticks, the Nexus brings several modern hardware upgrades tailored for portable play. The device features a larger 5.98-inch IPS screen boasting 500 nits of brightness, paired with textured trigger controls and front-facing stereo speakers. Wireless connectivity gets an upgrade with Wi-Fi 6 support for faster downloads, alongside wireless headphone compatibility and a new wireless game sharing feature that lets two Nexus owners play multiplayer using a single cartridge. The device targets roughly five hours of battery life and charges via USB-C.

The standard edition is priced at $199.99 and includes the Banjo cartridge complete with a physical case and manual, while a limited 64 Edition drops for $229.99 with N64-inspired button colors, a poster, and a certificate of authenticity limited to 2,000 units. Pre-orders are live via partner retailer Funstock. For players who enjoy physical media and tangible retro collections, the Nexus offers an interesting bridge between classic software curation and contemporary handheld convenience.
