Denis Dyack, director of Eternal Darkness, is bringing his dark fantasy action RPG Deadhaus Sonata to Steam Early Access under Apocalypse Studios.
Denis Dyack, the creative mind behind the GameCube cult classic Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, is officially heading to Steam Early Access with a brand new dark fantasy project called Deadhaus Sonata. As reported by Game Rant, this release marks Dyack's first major project since the closure of his former studio, Silicon Knights, following a turbulent decade that included the dissolution of the company and several unrealized spiritual successor campaigns. Apocalypse Studios, founded by Dyack in 2018, is developing the title using Unreal Engine 5.
Fresh promotional material for Deadhaus Sonata leans heavily into the director's past work, drawing direct visual and structural comparisons to Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. The latest gameplay trailer highlights the transition from those classic top-down isometric roots to a modern, fully 3D action experience. Players will step into the shoes of the undead, choosing from seven distinct classes that include vampires, liches, revenants, wraiths, ghouls, wights, and banshees.
For veterans of early 2000s console gaming, the project carries a mix of nostalgia and curiosity. While Silicon Knights ultimately folded after legal battles and engine disputes, the influence of their earlier game design remains visible. Early access models give developers a chance to shape their communities in real time, and it will be fascinating to see how modern PC players respond to this particular brand of gothic action and classic dark fantasy design.
