Escape From Tarkov Lands on Steam With a Rough Start and Mostly Negative Reviews

Escape From Tarkov's long-awaited Steam launch has been met with severe server issues, login failures, and a Mostly Negative review score as frustrated players struggle to access the game.
Escape From Tarkov has finally arrived on Steam, but the long awaited platform debut has hit a wall of severe technical troubles. As reported by Vikki Blake over at Eurogamer, the tactical extraction shooter is currently sitting at a Mostly Negative user rating following launch day server instability and widespread authorization failures that leave many players unable to log in at all. Developer Battlestate Games acknowledged the high traffic and server strain through official channels, stating that the technical team is actively working to stabilize services.
The rocky rollout has naturally triggered a flood of frustrated user reviews on the platform. Out of more than seven thousand reviews submitted since launch, only thirty-four percent lean positive. Frustrated players took to Steam to air their grievances, with many unable to even create an account due to ongoing website maintenance and persistent backend errors. Some reviews leaned into dramatic descriptions of the game's brutal reputation, with one calling the experience a cosmic punishment while another joked that the title should be renamed to Escape From Maintenance.
This rough transition adds another chapter to the game's history of community friction, following previous controversies like the backlash over the high priced Unheard Edition and its exclusive PvE mode. For a game that already demands absolute patience and nerves of steel, spending launch day staring at error screens and failed login prompts is a tough pill to swallow. Battlestate has promised fixes are on the way, but the community will need to see actual stability before this Steam debut turns around.
