Nikita Buyanov, the recognizable face and game director behind the massive extraction shooter Escape from Tarkov, is already looking toward the future. Fresh off Tarkov reaching its long-awaited full release in late 2025, Buyanov and his team at Battlestate Games have given players a first look at an entirely new project named COR3. While Tarkov spent over a decade defining and refining the tactical extraction genre, this next venture shifts the studio's focus toward the stars with a distinctly unsettling atmosphere.
The initial teaser trailer for COR3 offers a brief but striking glimpse into its sci-fi premise. The footage opens on a lone soldier standing amidst the ruined wreckage of a city before the camera slowly pulls back to reveal a sprawling, technologically advanced civilization on Mars. Floating bodies of astronauts and devastated spacecraft litter the planet's orbit, painting a bleak picture of whatever cataclysm took place there. It is a sharp tonal shift from the grounded, gritty modern military aesthetic of Tarkov, though it retains the same grim and unforgiving atmosphere that fans of the studio have come to expect.
For players who track developer trajectories and studio portfolios, seeing Battlestate branch out beyond their breakout hit is a major moment. Tarkov became a cornerstone of streaming culture and hardcore tactical shooters, proving that deep, punishing gameplay loops can capture massive community dedication across years of active development. As more details about COR3 emerge, the real question will be how much of that signature high-stakes design philosophy carries over into this new Martian battlefield.
