The Epic Games Store has officially lined up its next major freebie, announcing that the story-driven collectible card game Cardpocalypse will be available for zero cost starting August 20. Originally reported by Dominik Bošnjak at Game Rant, the upcoming promotion marks the sixth free game giveaway for the platform this August, giving players an easy way to expand their digital libraries without spending a dime. Developed by Irish studio Gambrinous, Cardpocalypse drops players into a nostalgic, heavily stylized version of the 1990s.
The narrative follows Jess, a ten-year-old wheelchair user whose school bans a massively popular trading card game called Mega Mutant Power Pets. Undeterred, the students take the craze underground, playing in secret until things take a wild turn when the game's mutants start manifesting in the real world. Players must then guide Jess and her friends through a whimsical, card-battling quest to stop the invasion.
While the game draws heavy thematic inspiration from the Pokemon Trading Card Game, its actual mechanics lean into tactical depth. Matches revolve around compact 20-card decks and unique Champion cards that feature a berserker-style comeback mechanic, growing progressively stronger as they take damage. Regularly priced at $24.
99 and boasting a history of remaining a paid title since its 2019 debut across consoles, mobile platforms, and PC, this represents the very first time Cardpocalypse has been offered entirely for free on any platform. The base game will be claimable from August 20 at 8 a.m.
PT through August 27 at the same time, though its separate add-ons, including the digital soundtrack and the Out of Time story DLC, are not included in the promotion. Until the Cardpocalypse giveaway goes live, players still have time to grab the current free offering, the cozy exploration title Caravan SandWitch, which remains available through August 20.
