Enginefall Brings Snowpiercer Dynamics and Approachable PvP to the Survival Genre

Polygon previews Enginefall, a new survival game from Red Rover Interactive that combines Rust-style mechanics with Snowpiercer train dynamics and a more approachable, time-respecting PvP model.

Survival games are known for demanding hundreds of hours of grinding only to watch your hard work get raided while you are offline. Developer Red Rover Interactive is aiming to flip that script with Enginefall, an upcoming multiplayer survival shooter that blends classic base building with the relentless momentum of a moving megatrain. As reported by Polygon in their recent preview, the game drops players onto massive locomotives traversing a frozen wasteland, tasking them with fighting or looting their way from the back carriages toward the front engine.

The core hook is a refreshing take on traditional survival loops. Your personal vehicle, known as a dagger, acts as your mobile base where you can craft upgrades and drop in cosmetic furniture. Crucially, Red Rover has designed the game to respect player time and remove the sting of offline raiding by making base attacks opt-in for both parties. Players can board megatrains to hunt other players, sneak through the lower decks for high-tier loot while avoiding PvP, or brave the exposed rooftops to skip sections entirely. If you manage to outplay the competition and AI guards, you can even seize control of the locomotive to become the conductor.

While current playtests on Steam show that the game still needs optimization and polish, the underlying societal experiment has massive potential for creators and community-driven groups. By lowering the barrier to entry and reducing the devastating consequences usually tied to resource loss, Enginefall could successfully open up the survival crafting genre to a broader cross-platform audience. It offers the tension of games like Rust without requiring players to sacrifice their entire lives to keep their digital property safe.
