Endless Legend 2 Tackles 4X AI Memory Gaps With New Diplomatic Badge System

Amplitude is updating Endless Legend 2 to fix the 4X genre's goldfish AI problem with a new persistent badge system that permanently tracks player behavior and imposes long-term diplomatic consequences.
If you spend enough time playing 4X strategy games, you eventually run into the classic goldfish memory problem with AI opponents. No matter how many territories you conquer or treaties you break, rival factions often treat every new interaction as a blank slate. Fortunately, developer Amplitude is tackling this head-on in Endless Legend 2 by introducing a persistent diplomatic memory system driven by behavioral badges, as detailed in a recent update covered by Rock Paper Shotgun.
Under the new system, the game tracks your ongoing patterns rather than letting you casually cycle between endless warfare and sudden diplomacy. If you constantly refuse trade deals, you earn the Hard Bargainer label. If you repeatedly launch unprovoked attacks, expect to be permanently branded as a Bully or a Colonizer, complete with heavy public opinion penalties like a negative fifty modifier. Crucially, these badges do not drop out of nowhere. The game introduces three escalating temporary tiers before locking in a permanent title, giving you plenty of warning to change your foreign policy approach.
This update fundamentally changes how long-term strategies play out by making aggressive play carry permanent diplomatic consequences that you cannot simply wait out. On the flip side, consistent diplomacy makes coalition building and treaty renewals much smoother. Amplitude is also exploring whether to make these badges public knowledge across the entire world map, meaning rival civilizations could soon close ranks against notorious conquerors. For players who prefer pure chaos, you can always fall back on factions like the Necrophage, who generally care far more about what their neighbors taste like than what the public opinion polls say.
