Emmy winner Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes of Amazon's live-action God of War series, joining showrunner Ronald D. Moore as pre-production kicks off in Vancouver.
Amazon's live-action God of War adaptation is stacking its creative deck behind the camera. As originally reported by Deadline and covered by Eurogamer, Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye has signed on to direct the first two episodes of the upcoming series. Toye brings serious pedigree to the project, having recently picked up an Emmy for his work on ShÅgun. His extensive resume also includes heavy-hitting genre TV like Westworld, The Boys, and The Walking Dead, alongside prior video game adaptation experience directing episodes for Amazon's Fallout series.
Toye steps into the project alongside showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who took the helm late last year following a major creative shakeup and the departure of the original team. Despite the early behind-the-scenes pivot, the production is keeping plenty of institutional knowledge on board. PlayStation Productions figures Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan are still attached alongside Sony's Hermen Hulst, Vertigo's Roy Lee, and Sony Santa Monica studio head Cory Barlog. Jeff Ketcham from Santa Monica is also serving as a co-executive producer.
Pre-production is officially ramping up in Vancouver with casting underway, and Amazon already has a lot of confidence in the IP. Even without a release window locked in for the first season, the studio has already greenlit a second season. For players who have watched Kratos and Atreus evolve across console generations, seeing the Norse saga translated to live-action is one of the most anticipated streaming projects on the horizon.
