Embark Studios Weighs Permanent Removal of ARC Raiders Expedition Feature

Embark Studios is considering the permanent removal of the Expedition system in ARC Raiders, leaving the feature's future uncertain ahead of the October Frozen Trail update.

Embark Studios is reportedly considering scrapping the Expedition system in ARC Raiders permanently, according to comments made by executive producer Aleksander Grøndal during a recent conversation at Gamescom. While the development team initially planned for Expeditions to simply take a temporary break after the fifth window wraps up this September, Grøndal confirmed that completely discontinuing the feature is now an option on the table as they evaluate necessary improvements.

This shift in messaging may catch many players off guard, especially since the studio previously indicated that the system would return sometime in early 2027. For now, the developers have not made a final decision on the matter. Players should not expect any concrete answers until the upcoming Frozen Trail update launches in early October, leaving the long-term future of the feature entirely up in the air.

As the game approaches its one-year anniversary, ARC Raiders has seen its concurrent player counts settle well below its initial peak of nearly half a million on Steam. Keeping communication open with the community will be vital for Embark as they weigh these sweeping changes. Fortunately, the upcoming Frozen Trail update still brings plenty of fresh content to dive into, including a brand new progression system, additional enemies, and the largest map introduced to the game so far.
