Embark Rules Out Auction House for ARC Raiders to Protect In-Game Economy

Embark Studios has confirmed that ARC Raiders will not feature a traditional auction house or player marketplace, opting instead to keep trading organic, on-map, and focused on item utility rather than profit grinding.
Embark Studios is taking a cautious stance on player-to-player trading in ARC Raiders, confirming in recent interviews with GamesRadar and PCGamesN that traditional auction houses are off the table. Design lead Virgil Watkins explained that introducing a global marketplace or automated trading menu risks reducing the game's survival loop down to a pure profit grind. The team fears that allowing players to easily buy and sell everything through menus would ruin the emotional weight of finding gear out in the world and force every item to be viewed purely as flat currency.
Instead of global menus, the developers want to encourage spontaneous, on-map player interactions that preserve the tension of the wasteland. Rather than forcing players to awkwardly drop items on the floor and trust strangers not to shoot, Embark is looking into physical trading animations that let raiders hand objects directly to one another. This approach keeps social facilitation grounded in the actual gameplay space, maintaining the immersion of player encounters without opening the door to the hyper-financialized trading markets seen in other extraction titles.
Beyond field trades, the studio is also exploring ways to flesh out the safe zones between runs. Developers are actively discussing turning the underground human citadel of Speranza into a fully walkable social hub space, provided they can balance immersive exploration with the menu efficiency players need. As reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, these updates form part of Embark's broader roadmap to expand ARC Raiders expeditions throughout 2026 while keeping tight control over the game's economy and item scarcity.
