Director Eli Roth confirms that the script for Thanksgiving 2 is nearly finished, though filming has been delayed due to scheduling conflicts with the breakout cast's busy careers.
Horror fans waiting for a follow-up to the 2023 slasher hit Thanksgiving can breathe a sigh of relief. Director Eli Roth recently spoke with Polygon to clear up the status of the sequel, confirming that the script is nearly finished and the project is still very much in active development. What started as a joke fake trailer in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's 2007 feature Grindhouse officially grew into a sleeper box office success when Roth brought John Carver to the big screen as a pilgrim-masked killer.
While the first film was a breakout win, putting together a sequel has proven to be a logistical puzzle. Roth explained that the primary delay comes down to simple scheduling conflicts with the breakout young cast. In the three years since the original film premiered, actors like Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, and Addison Rae have seen their careers explode across television series, world tours, and feature films. Getting everyone back in the same room has turned out to be a massive coordination challenge for the production team.
Fortunately, the creative foundation is already firmly in place. Roth and co-writer Jeff Rendell have nearly finalized the script for Thanksgiving 2, meaning production can kick off as soon as calendar alignments clear up. While Roth stays busy with other projects under his Horror Section banner, including his upcoming feature Ice Cream Man, the return of Plymouth's most unhinged holiday slasher is officially on the horizon.
