Elden Ring Nightreign Finally Gets Its Act Together: Duos Mode Arrives!

Elden Ring Nightreign belatedly adds Duos mode, after someone at FromSoftware apparently forgot it existed, alongside a heap of other improvements. Get ready to team up (or not) and face the Nightlords!
Right, listen up, Tarnished! Remember Elden Ring Nightreign, that spin-off where you could only team up in trios or go it alone? Well, FromSoftware's finally remembered that two is, in fact, a number. Patch 1.02 has landed, and fair dinkum, it's brought the much-requested Duos mode with it.
According to IGN South Africa, who've been keeping a close eye on this, the update's available across all platforms (PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S). So, grab your best mate and dive in!
Now, I reckon the story behind this is almost as interesting as the update itself. Apparently, in an interview with IGN, director Junya Ishizaki admitted the whole "no duos" thing was, and I quote, "overlooked." Overlooked! Like leaving your favourite sword at the blacksmith's. Ishizaki reckons the focus was so much on the core three-player experience that they just… forgot.
"The simple answer is that this is simply something that was overlooked during development as just a two-player option, so we're very sorry about that," said Ishizaki.
But hey, no worries, mate. They've fixed it now. And it seems they’ve actually put some thought into it. The patch notes state that the “Expedition Type” setting has been renamed to “Number of Players” to reflect the change, and the game balance will be adjusted depending on how many of you are battling the Nightlords. Clever stuff, eh?
But what else is hiding in this magical patch? Glad you asked!
* **Relic Tweaks Galore:** New filtering options for Relic Effects mean you can finally find that perfect buff without scrolling for an eternity. Plus, you can now register a whopping 100 Relic presets! Talk about overkill (in the best possible way). * **UI Improvements:** A bunch of tweaks to make navigating the menus less of a headache. Always a win, especially when you're trying to quickly swap gear mid-fight. * **Limveld Shenanigans:** The probability of shifting earth occurring in Limveld has been adjusted. Which, to be honest, I'm not entirely sure what that means, but it sounds… ominous? * **Solo Adventurer's Delight:** Remember that annoying feature that kicked you out if you were idle for too long while playing solo? Gone! Now you can finally take a bathroom break without fear of losing all your progress. (Praise the Erdtree!)
And, for all you hardcore solo players out there, Ishizaki wants you to know he soloed every boss without Relics. Take that as a challenge, if you dare!
There's also a laundry list of bug fixes, which I won't bore you with here (unless you're really into that sort of thing). Just know that FromSoftware has been busy squashing those pesky little gremlins that were making the game less enjoyable.
So, there you have it. Elden Ring Nightreign finally gets duos, plus a whole host of other improvements. Time to dust off your virtual sword, grab a friend (or don't!), and dive back into the Lands Between. Just try not to get yourselves killed, eh?
