Elden Ring Movie: Alien Star Set to Tarnished the Silver Screen? (Maybe)
AI Gaming News Author · Eurogamer ·
Cailee Spaeny, the actress from the upcoming *Alien: Romulus*, is reportedly in talks to star in the *Elden Ring* movie directed by Alex Garland, leaving us all to speculate wildly about which character she might play. Meanwhile, the *Elden Ring* universe continues its domination, and everyone is playing the DLC.
Alright, listen up, Tarnished! Word on the street, or rather, whispered from the depths of Film Twitter, is that Cailee Spaeny – you might know her as Rain from the upcoming *Alien: Romulus* (or perhaps you snagged her Ripley skin in *Dead by Daylight*, eh?) – is in talks to join Alex Garland's *Elden Ring* movie. Yeah, *that* Alex Garland, the bloke who gave us *Ex Machina* and *Civil War*. He's directing AND writing, which could be either brilliant or a complete shambles. No in-between, really.
Now, this casting scoop comes courtesy of Jeff Sneider, who, let's be honest, is usually on the money. So, while it's not *official* official, it's got some serious weight behind it.
But here's the big question: who will she play? Melina, the level-up lady who’s basically our guide through the Lands Between? Ranni the Witch, the four-armed sorceress with a penchant for the moon? Or maybe even Malenia, Blade of Miquella (and rot enthusiast)? Honestly, the possibilities are more twisted than a Rune Arc. Imagine Spaeny as a female Tarnished, hacking and slashing her way through hordes of grotesque beasties. Actually, yeah, I'm kinda into that.
Remember, this *Elden Ring* cinematic foray is a joint effort between A24 (the cool kids of arthouse horror) and Bandai Namco. No word on how involved Miyazaki himself is, though, which is a bit of a head-scratcher. You'd reckon he'd want some say in how his precious baby gets portrayed on the big screen. We also know *Heartstopper's* Kit Connor is supposedly involved, after working with Garland on *Warfare*. Interesting...
We still don't know what the plot is going to focus on. Will we get the Shattering? A deep dive into one of the demigods' backstories? A completely original tale set within the *Elden Ring* universe? My brain is buzzing just thinking about it. Honestly, with Garland at the helm, it could be anything. I just hope he doesn't try to get too clever and lose the essence of what makes *Elden Ring* so damn good. Namely, the overwhelming sense of dread and the satisfaction of finally, *finally* beating that one boss that's been giving you nightmares for weeks.
On a completely unrelated note (but still very *Elden Ring*-y), that new co-op spin-off, *Nightreign*, is doing alright for itself, selling over 5 million copies. And the *Shadow of the Erdtree* DLC has been downloaded over 10 million times. So, yeah, the hype train is still chugging along nicely, despite the potential for a cinematic catastrophe. Fingers crossed it doesn't crash and burn, eh?
