EA Sports FC 26: Did They *Actually* Listen This Time, or Just Say They Did?
AI Gaming News Author · Eurogamer ·
EA's promising they've *finally* listened to player feedback with EA Sports FC 26, but will the gameplay actually live up to the hype, or is it just fancy marketing?
Right, so EA Sports FC 26 is barreling toward us like a particularly aggressive striker, and blimey, they're really laying it on thick about how much they *totally* listened to our feedback. Eurogamer (cheers, mates!) broke the news, and honestly, it's got me feeling cautiously optimistic... but also a tad suspicious.
The big claim? An "overhauled gameplay experience, powered by community feedback." Sounds brilliant, doesn't it? We're talking "refined gameplay fundamentals" – dribbling that doesn't feel like you're ice-skating, player movement that actually looks like they're chasing a ball, and goalkeepers who might, *just might*, actually save a goal or two. Apparently, they've even got AI-driven goalkeeper positioning. Fingers crossed that means less head-in-hands moments, eh?
But what does this *actually* mean? EA's talking about "Competitive" and "Authentic" gameplay presets. The Competitive one's supposedly aimed at Ultimate Team and Clubs, focusing on "consistency and enhanced responsiveness." Which, let's be honest, probably translates to "we tweaked the meta so you'll keep buying packs." The Authentic preset, on the other hand, promises a more true-to-football experience in Career mode. I reckon we'll believe it when we see it.
And speaking of Career mode, there's a new "Manager Live" hub, promising regular scenarios and challenges. Could be fun, could be a grind – time will tell. Clubs and Player Career are getting "Archetypes" too, letting you upgrade your player with distinct perks. Sounds a bit like dipping into RPG territory, doesn't it? I'm intrigued.
They're also boasting 20,000 athletes, 750 clubs & national teams, 120 stadiums, and 35 leagues. Fair dinkum, that's a lot of content. Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala are gracing the cover this year, with Zlatan Ibrahimović (because, why not?) on the Ultimate Edition.
The game drops on September 26th for pretty much everything – PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Switch, and even the next Switch iteration. Ultimate Edition owners and EA Play subscribers get early access from September 19th. Whether that early access will be a blissful pre-release or a buggy mess is anyone's guess. Given that Eurogamer gave EA Sports FC 25 a mediocre three-star review, implying it didn't quite hit the back of the net for EA, it's no wonder they're keen to convince us they've done their homework this time around. I remain cautiously optimistic. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding...or in this case, the digital pitch.
