Dynasty Warriors Producer Tomohiko Sho Prefers New Projects Over More Remasters

Dynasty Warriors producer Tomohiko Sho has expressed a preference for developing new games and sequels rather than working on more remasters as he looks toward retirement. Despite the recent successful launch of the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster, he hopes to leave older catalog projects to other team members.

As Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered hits modern platforms like PC, current gen consoles, and the Nintendo Switch 2, series producer Tomohiko Sho is already looking past nostalgia trips. In a recent interview, Sho admitted that he would rather spend the remainder of his career building new games and sequels rather than revisiting his older catalog. While he understands the massive pull of nostalgia and acknowledges a certain obligation to long time fans, the creative fatigue of rebuilding his past work is real.

Sho noted that bringing the classic PlayStation 2 era title up to modern Unreal Engine 5 standards for its 25th anniversary felt strange at times, leading him to question why he was remaking his own history instead of pushing forward. Now in his fifties, he is acutely aware of the finite number of games he can make before retirement. Even so, he is not entirely closing the door on future remasters for games missing from Steam, though he would likely hand those projects off to other developers on the team so he can focus on fresh concepts.

This perspective strikes a chord in an industry currently obsessed with endless remakes and digital preservation. While players love having native access to foundational classics with upgraded performance and visuals, hearing a veteran creator prioritize new ideas offers a refreshing counterweight to the nostalgia cycle. For now, the successful launch proves the enduring appeal of mass combat on modern hardware, leaving the door wide open for whatever Sho decides to build next.
