Dying Light: The Beast Gets a Time-Out: More Zombie Polish Incoming!

Techland's delayed the release of Dying Light: The Beast until September 19th for some extra polish, which is probably a good thing, especially since Ultimate Edition owners are getting it for free. It sounds like they're listening to the community and aiming for a seriously solid zombie-smashing experience.

Right, so Techland's just dropped a bit of a bombshell – Dying Light: The Beast, which we were all geared up to sink our teeth into next month, is now shuffling its way to a September 19th release. Seems they want to give it a bit of extra spit and shine before unleashing it upon us.

Now, usually, a delay announcement is enough to make you groan louder than a Volatile at midnight, but Techland's reasoning is… well, it's actually pretty solid. According to their update, they've been tuning into player feedback from playtests and previews, and reckon that with a mere four extra weeks, they can iron out those last little wrinkles that can make all the difference between a good game and a *great* one. We're talking animation tweaks, gameplay balancing, and even making the UI a bit less… well, zombified. Smart move, if you ask me.

They reckon it's about making a great first impression, and let's be fair, nobody wants a buggy, unbalanced mess on day one, especially not after the devs themselves stated that "Dying Light: The Beast is the culmination of everything we’ve learned in more than a decade of the series".

If you're scratching your head thinking, "Hang on, wasn't this supposed to be DLC?", you're not wrong. It all started out as an add-on for Dying Light 2: Stay Human. But after two years of graft, it mutated into something far bigger – a standalone adventure, apparently. And here’s the kicker: if you already own the Dying Light 2 Stay Human Ultimate Edition, you're getting The Beast absolutely free. Fair dinkum, that's a pretty sweet deal, eh? No blockchain shenanigans or confusing NFT integration here, just a good old-fashioned freebie for loyal fans.

Techland initially unveiled The Beast at Gamescom last year and then followed up with an August release announcement last month, along with a shiny new trailer showcasing all the parkour and zombie-smashing goodness we've come to expect. (Side note: if you haven't tried Dying Light parkour, you're missing out. It's like Mirror's Edge with more… bite.)

Of course, it's not all sunshine and roses at Techland. News broke earlier this month that they've canned two in-development titles. Bit of a downer, but hey, at least they're focusing on polishing what they've already got in the pipeline. After all, wouldn't you rather have one exceptionally polished zombie parkour adventure than three half-baked ones?

So, September 19th it is. Let's hope those four weeks of extra polish turn The Beast into a truly monstrous experience (in the good way, obviously).
