Donkey Kong Bananza: More Bananas, More Brawn, Same Old Barrel of Fun? (First 15 in 4K!)

IGN South Africa dropped a 4K gameplay video of *Donkey Kong Bananza*, showing off the updated visuals and larger levels – but will it be more than just a shiny coat of paint on a classic formula?

Right, so IGN South Africa just dropped a look at the first 15 minutes of *Donkey Kong Bananza* in glorious 4K at 60fps (you can find the original video here: [). And, fair dinkum, it looks… well, it looks like Donkey Kong. Which, let's be honest, isn't a bad thing at all, is it? But is it *Bananza* levels of good?

Now, I haven't had a chance to get my grubby mitts on it myself yet, but from the gameplay, it’s clear they're leaning hard into the nostalgia. We're talking lush jungles, precarious platforms, and the constant threat of being squished by something enormous and banana-related. Sound familiar? It should.

The level design looks solid, with plenty of hidden areas and collectibles to keep completionists busy for, oh, I reckon, months? And the art style? Top notch. The 4K boost really makes those vibrant colours pop – you can practically taste the pixels (don’t actually lick your screen, please). The animation is slick and responsive. No janky controls here, thankfully.

But what about the *Bananza* part? Is it just a new coat of paint, or are there some genuinely interesting twists on the classic formula? Well, from what I can gather, the big selling point seems to be the sheer scale of the levels. Everything feels bigger, bolder, and more densely packed than ever before. We’re talking branching paths, dynamic environments, and, I assume, some absolute monstrous boss battles lurking in the wings.

Look, I'm cautiously optimistic. It's Donkey Kong, so the core gameplay is almost certainly going to be a blast. But I'm also a cynical old wizard at heart, and I've seen too many 'remastered' or 're-imagined' classics that ultimately fall flat. This *Bananza* needs to bring more than just shiny graphics to the table.

But, and this is a big but, the fact that they’re showing off gameplay this early suggests they're pretty confident in what they've got. And the 4K footage is certainly a treat for the eyes. We'll see if it holds up once it's released but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Nintendo hasn’t monkeyed around with a good thing. I reckon we'll all be swinging through the jungle once more.
