Doki Doki Literature Club Pulled From Google Play Store Over Sensitive Themes

Psychological horror visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club has been removed from the Google Play Store for violating terms of service regarding sensitive themes, prompting its developers to seek alternative Android distribution options.

As reported by Eurogamer, the psychological horror hit Doki Doki Literature Club has been removed from the Google Play Store. Developer Team Salvato and publisher Serenity Forge shared a joint statement explaining that Google pulled the mobile port due to violations of its terms of service regarding the depiction of sensitive themes. This removal comes just months after the cult classic successfully made the jump to iOS and Android in December 2025, following years of success on PC and consoles.

The mobile version carried explicit content warnings in its description and store listings, which makes the sudden removal frustrating for both the creators and the community. In their official statement, the developers emphasized that the narrative is widely celebrated for exploring mental health honestly, helping many players feel seen and less alone. While the game remains fully available on Apple devices and Steam, Android players currently lack an official storefront option.

Team Salvato has confirmed they are doing everything possible to get the game reinstated on the Google Play Store, while also looking into alternative distribution methods for Android users. Mobile storefront guidelines often struggle to balance automated content moderation with mature narrative storytelling, leaving boundary pushing titles in a difficult spot. As digital storefronts tighten their automated policing, incidents like this highlight the ongoing challenges developers face when bringing complex narrative experiences to mobile ecosystems.
