Disney has released the first official trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, detailing a high stakes bounty mission against Imperial aligned Hutts ahead of the film's May theatrical release.
Disney has finally given us a proper look at The Mandalorian and Grogu, moving past the playful Super Bowl misdirect and into actual galactic territory. According to a report by Polygon, the new footage delivers all the classic Star Wars staples we expect, including iconic X Wing dogfights against sunlit horizons, frantic cockpit switch flipping, and Ludwig Goransson returning to score the whole affair with his unmistakable musical themes. This time around, Din Djarin finds himself on a high stakes bounty mission tracking down a specific Hutt who appears to be allied with remaining Imperial factions.
The feature film brings back the creative heavyweights behind the Disney Plus series, with Jon Favreau directing and co writing alongside Dave Filoni. Pedro Pascal returns under the helmet as our favorite bounty hunter, while a stacked supporting cast joins the journey including Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, Sigourney Weaver as Ward, and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial Warlord. With the television side of the franchise sitting quietly since its third season wrapped, this big screen outing is shaping up to be the definitive next chapter for the duo.
For anyone tracking the broader entertainment landscape, this movie represents another major test of how well prestige streaming franchises translate to the theater format. Star Wars has always thrived as a communal event, whether that means packed cinema screenings or millions of fans dissecting every frame on YouTube and TikTok within minutes of release. As the May 22 theatrical release date approaches, expect the digital ecosystem to flood with trailer breakdowns, theories, and inevitably, new themed cosmetics and tie in events across our favorite games.
