Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer Jared Bush recently addressed the possibility of a Kingdom Hearts feature film, keeping the door open for future adaptations as the franchise ramps up for its late 2027 game release and upcoming Disney+ series.
Kingdom Hearts fans have plenty to celebrate lately between fresh game trailers and streaming announcements, and it appears the universe of Sora and friends might eventually expand to the silver screen. As reported by IGN South Africa, Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer Jared Bush recently addressed the lingering question of whether a full-length feature film could happen for the massive crossover franchise. During a conversation with IGN at D23, Jeffrey Vega asked Bush about the potential for a movie project, noting that Bush holds the greenlight power to make it happen.
Bush offered a measured response, stating that he is always excited to hear what communities are passionate about and that nothing is impossible given the studio's diverse plans for future storytelling formats. While the answer leans toward corporate diplomacy rather than an immediate greenlight, it keeps the door wide open for speculation. This conversation follows a wave of major momentum for the franchise, including the recent D23 showcase for Kingdom Hearts 4 featuring a late 2027 release window and a newly announced Disney+ animated series.
The latest footage gave players a look at the Coco themed world with Sora utilizing a guitar shaped keyblade, alongside returning staples like Mickey, Goofy, and Hades, plus further exploration of the realistic Tokyo inspired city of Quadratum. Communities wanting an even deeper look at the upcoming release can tune into the dedicated D23 panel featuring creative leads and voice talent including Haley Joel Osment and David Gallagher.
