Epic Games is reportedly developing a Disney-themed extraction shooter targeted for a November release, following up on their multi-billion dollar partnership announced in 2024.
Epic Games is expanding its massive partnership with Disney by developing a brand new extraction shooter, according to a recent report from Bloomberg. Slated for a tentative November launch, the unnamed project stems from the multi-billion dollar investment Disney made in Epic back in 2024. While Disney properties are no strangers to the Fortnite ecosystem, this upcoming title represents a deeper dive into dedicated genre gameplay rather than simple cosmetic crossovers.
Sources close to the development point to games like Embark Studios' Arc Raiders as a primary point of comparison for the project's scope and gameplay loop. Early internal reception sounds somewhat mixed. While some teams at Epic feel confident about the game's market readiness, others have reportedly raised questions regarding how fresh the mechanics will feel in a crowded genre. Even so, combining high stakes extraction gameplay with universally recognized intellectual property is a calculated swing that could easily pull in a massive cross-platform audience.
This project is just one piece of a much larger strategy bringing Disney deeper into interactive spaces, following recent updates that let creators build custom Star Wars experiences inside Fortnite alongside countless Marvel and Pixar collaborations. As battle passes and persistent live service economies dominate player habits across PC, console, and mobile, bridging mainstream entertainment giants with competitive shooter mechanics is becoming the industry standard. We will have to see if this new venture delivers the innovation players expect when more details emerge. For the full report, check out the original coverage on IGN South Africa.
