Daniel Craig and Rian Johnson return for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, blending a fresh murder mystery in upstate New York with sincere themes of religious faith and a star-studded cast including Josh Brolin and Josh O Connor.
Daniel Craig and writer-director Rian Johnson are returning for the third chapter of their murder mystery franchise with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Following the massive streaming success of Glass Onion, the upcoming film drops detective Benoit Blanc into a brand new investigation in an upstate New York town. This time, the narrative tackles surprisingly sincere themes around religious faith alongside the usual twists, setting up a sharp clash of personalities in a tight knit community.
The prime suspect in this seemingly impossible murder is a young Catholic priest named Father Jud Duplenticy, played by Josh O Connor. He serves as the assistant to a charismatic firebrand, Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, played by Josh Brolin. For a franchise known for skewering wealthy privilege and modern pretension, weaving genuine questions of faith into the central puzzle adds a fresh dramatic layer that should give the ensemble cast plenty of room to chew the scenery.
While the movie is firmly positioned as a traditional theatrical and streaming event rather than an interactive game, the Knives Out series shares a lot of DNA with the social deduction and murder mystery titles that dominate our Discord servers and Twitch streams. Fans love a good whodunit, and the internet is already buzzing with theories about the new cast of suspects. As we wait for the official drop, it is clear that Johnson is keeping the formula fresh by anchoring his clever puzzles in deeper emotional territory.
