Diablo 5 is Bringing Baldur's Gate 3 Style Campsites to Blizzard's ARPG

Blizzard confirmed during BlizzCon that Diablo 5 will feature a mobile Caravan system inspired by the campsite mechanics in Baldur's Gate 3, offering players a safe hub in a ruined Sanctuary.

Blizzard recently pulled back the curtain on Diablo 5 during its BlizzCon opening ceremony, confirming that the upcoming action role-playing game is taking a cue from Baldur's Gate 3. Set in a version of Sanctuary where the Lord of Terror has already emerged victorious, players will navigate a world where cities and traditional safe zones are largely ruined. To counter this constant danger, developers are introducing a mobile home base called the Caravan system.

According to narrative director Jennifer Helper, the new mechanic draws heavy inspiration from the instanced campsite features found in traditional RPGs like Baldur's Gate 3 and Dragon Age. While followers at the camp will not feature deep gear management or skill trees like their CRPG counterparts, they will have distinct personalities and provide a safe space away from the open world. Players can use the location to craft gear at the blacksmith, restock potions, and interact with recruited companions.

As players progress through the campaign and act as a beacon of hope in a bleak environment, the Caravan will visibly grow from a modest setup into a bustling hub for NPCs. With the game currently slated for a 2029 release, players have plenty of time to wonder how this mobile safe zone will ultimately shift the traditional pacing of endgame farming and campaign exploration.
