Diablo 4 is Finally Getting a Character Rebirth Feature, But There is a Catch

Blizzard is introducing a Rebirth feature to Diablo 4 in Season 15, allowing players to bring their Eternal characters into the Seasonal realm, though it resets characters to level one and wipes inventory items while keeping cosmetics and playtime.
For years, the rigid wall between Diablo 4's Eternal and Seasonal realms has been a constant friction point for the community. While live service games typically roll updates into a single persistent world, Blizzard has kept permanent characters and seasonal characters entirely separate. This design forced players to spin up brand new heroes from scratch every single time a fresh season dropped if they wanted to check out the latest content. Now, according to a recent report by Sherif Saed over at Eurogamer, Blizzard is finally addressing that feedback with a new feature called Rebirth, currently sitting on the Public Test Realm for testing.
The upcoming addition lets you take an existing Eternal character and bring them over into the Seasonal realm for Season 15. The catch is that you will not be keeping your hard-earned power progression or gear. When you trigger a Rebirth, your character gets reset all the way back down to level one. You also have to completely clear out your inventory and equipped items before the game will even let you make the jump, meaning everything needs to be moved to your Eternal stash first or it vanishes.
So what actually carries over besides the name and face? You get to keep your total playtime stats along with any cosmetic unlocks and appearance customizations you have collected. It is a system designed to preserve your attachment to a specific character's look and history rather than letting you bypass the leveling grind. As a preview, the current 3.2.0 patch on the PTR is lighter on features than usual, with Blizzard holding back the major Season 15 reveals for BlizzCon in September ahead of the full launch on September 15th, 2026.
