Blizzard confirmed that the Amazon class coming to Diablo 4 in 2027 will be gender-locked, breaking a four-year customization tradition to stay true to series lore.
During the recent BlizzCon showcase, Blizzard confirmed that the iconic Amazon class will make its way to Diablo 4 in 2027. Following the introduction of the Skovos region in the Lord of Hatred expansion, this classic hero from Diablo 2 is finally joining the current roster. However, this addition comes with a major caveat for the character creator. For the first time since the game launched in 2023, the Amazon will be a strictly gender-locked class.
While every other class in Diablo 4 lets players choose between male and female body types, the Amazon will only be available as a female character. Game Rant reported that this decision stems directly from series lore, as the Askari people of Skovos operate strictly as a matriarchal society. Sticking to this background means honoring how the class functioned back in Diablo 2, even if modern ARPG standards usually lean heavily into open customization.
Despite the lack of gender options, the upcoming class is shaping up to offer plenty of variety for endgame builds. Blizzard outlined four distinct archetypes for the Amazon, including the Commander, Skirmisher, Champion, and a modern take on the classic Bowazon Ranger build. The class will also introduce a brand-new Javelin weapon type to the loot pool, giving players plenty of reasons to dive back into the grind when the update drops in 2027.
