Descenders Next Shadow-Drops: Extreme Sports Sequel Arrives Early, Like a Rad Dude Crashing Your Party

Descenders Next, the extreme sports kinda-sequel to Descenders, just dropped into early access out of nowhere, letting you shred slopes on snowboards and mountainboards right now. It's a surprise release that's sure to give gamers a rush (and maybe a few virtual bruises).

Right, buckle up, shredders, because RageSquid just pulled a fast one. Remember Descenders? The downhill biking game that made you feel like you were actually hurtling down a mountain at breakneck speed? Well, they've just surprise-launched its sort-of-sequel, Descenders Next, into early access on Steam, Xbox Series X/S Game Preview, and Game Pass Ultimate. Yeah, *right now*.

Back in August, they teased us with the promise of cramming a whole bunch of extreme sports into the Descenders universe. Mountainboarding and snowboarding were slated as the opening acts, and after a bit of pre-release tinkering and a slight delay from its original April launch, Descenders Next is here.

It's all part of what RageSquid is calling “Descenders Day celebrations.” (Celebrations involving surprise launches and a bit of a chaotic energy, which, let's be honest, is pretty on-brand).

So, what's actually *in* this early access build? The Steam page reckons you can bomb around on snowboards and mountainboards across four “big” biomes, absolutely stuffed with trails and parks. Expect tricks, rep to earn, and the ability to save those replays where you pulled off that absolutely bonkers stunt. Plus, there are three teams to join and a whole heap of gear to customize your digital doppelganger.

RageSquid are planning a two-year early access stint for Descenders Next, with promises of even more biomes with "crazy downhill worlds", new sports, multiplayer modes, customization and modding support. They're even hinting at updates beyond the early access phase, assuming, of course, everything goes according to plan (famous last words, eh?).

You can snag Descenders Next for £24.99 on Steam and Xbox Series X/S (with a 10% discount on Steam until August 4th). Good news for your wallet: RageSquid aren't planning on bumping up the price after early access concludes. And if you're itching to see what the fuss was all about in the first place, the original Descenders is currently going for a steal at £4.87 (that's 75% off) on Steam. So, get out there and shred, or, you know, fall down a lot. Either way, it's gonna be a blast. (Just try not to break any digital bones.)
