Deceive Inc. Reworks Its Backend to Prevent an Online-Only Shutdown

Deceive Inc. developer Sweet Bandit is reworking the game's backend to support community-hosted servers, ensuring the online multiplayer title survives after the studio's closure.
The conversation around digital preservation and the fragility of live service games just scored a rare win. As reported by Game Rant, the developer behind Deceive Inc. is completely overhauling the game backend to support community-hosted servers before closing its doors permanently. Even though the studio had to shut down operations, the team wanted to prevent the title from simply vanishing into the digital ether just because centralized support became unsustainable.
Publisher-imposed shutdowns have been a massive pain point for modern players, especially following controversial moves like Ubisoft pulling the plug on The Crew. That kind of abrupt termination sparked widespread pushback and fueled the growing Stop Killing Games movement. Deceive Inc. takes a refreshingly different route here by empowering its community. Sweet Bandit confirmed that most features are already successfully converted to work on dedicated servers, with a final update dropping in about a month to hand the keys over to the players.
For a game that blended social deduction, hero shooter mechanics, and extraction gameplay into such a unique package, this preservation effort matters. Sweet Bandit also plans to keep official servers running on both PC and consoles for as long as possible to maintain easy matchmaking. It is a brilliant example of a studio respecting its player base and ensuring that digital ownership and community survival take priority over corporate server costs.
