Dead by Daylight Developers Reject Sequel Plans to Protect Player Inventory and Time

Behaviour Interactive has confirmed that Dead by Daylight 2 will never happen, choosing instead to continuously update the original game to protect player investments and avoid splitting the community, as reported by IGN South Africa.

Live service games often chase growth through numbered sequels, but Behaviour Interactive is taking a different route. In a recent interview with IGN South Africa at the Game Developers Conference, head of partnerships Mathieu Cote and creative director Dave Richard confirmed that a Dead by Daylight 2 is completely off the table. The team acknowledged that building a brand new client on a blank slate would make technical upkeep much easier on their end, but they ultimately decided that starting over makes zero sense for the community.

For a game built entirely around heavy player investment, cosmetic collections, and hard earned progression, forcing a transition to a sequel would wipe out years of dedication. Instead of splitting the player base across multiple titles like some other multiplayer franchises have done, the studio is choosing to modernize the existing platform. They plan to keep pushing out massive updates, community events, and high profile horror crossovers well into the future.

It is a refreshing stance in an industry where players are frequently asked to rebuy their favorite digital wardrobes every few years. By treating digital ownership with respect and keeping the community under one roof, Behaviour Interactive is proving that a live service game can evolve for a decade without needing a hard reset.
