Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead by Daylight, is hiring for an unannounced triple-A sci-fi first-person shooter built in Unreal Engine with a strong focus on realism.
Behaviour Interactive is expanding its portfolio far beyond asymmetrical horror. According to a recent job listing spotted by Insider Gaming, the studio behind Dead by Daylight is currently assembling a team for an unannounced triple-A sci-fi first-person shooter built in Unreal Engine. The posting highlights a project targeting a high realism bar, signaling a major production shift for a developer primarily known for stylized multiplayer survival and lighter third-party projects.
While Dead by Daylight remains a massive ongoing success story with record breaking player counts on Steam, Behaviour has experienced mixed results when branching out. The studio self-published the user generated fortress raiding game Meet Your Maker in 2023, but ultimately scaled back support when it failed to sustain a large enough player base. They also have the upcoming co-op PvE third-person shooter Exterminauts in the pipeline, but this newly discovered first-person project is clearly a distinct and much larger undertaking.
For players, this pivot represents an interesting test for a studio looking to break into the ultra competitive high budget shooter space. Unreal Engine provides a solid technical foundation, but delivering a realistic sci-fi aesthetic that stands out in today's crowded market requires serious vision and execution. As development ramps up, the big question will be whether Behaviour can successfully translate its long-running multiplayer expertise into a brand new genre and scale. As reported by Eurogamer, we will likely have to wait a while before seeing any official gameplay or hearing concrete details about the setting and progression systems.
