D&D's New Unearthed Arcana Lets Druids Go Full Kaiju

The latest Dungeons and Dragons Unearthed Arcana playtest introduces the Circle of the Titan druid, letting players transform into gargantuan kaiju to smash cities and swallow enemies whole.

Dungeons and Dragons is leaning hard into monster movie chaos with its latest playtest material. According to a recent report by Polygon, the newly released Unearthed Arcana titled Villainous Options introduces the Circle of the Titan druid subclass. This addition allows players to morph into gargantuan creatures capable of leveling cities and swallowing enemies whole. While standard Circle of the Moon druids can already turn into massive dinosaurs or giant apes, the Titan Form pushes the envelope by letting high level characters reach gargantuan status and stomp across the battlefield like a classic movie monster.

The subclass features three distinct wild shape options that cover all the major kaiju archetypes. Players can pick the Behemoth for a classic Godzilla experience complete with a destructive breath weapon, the Leviathan for an amphibious terror that leaves a toxic trail, or the Insectoid for a flying, healing option that clearly nods to Mothra. Mechanics like shockwave transformations and the ability to swallow multiple enemies at once make the build an absolute spectacle on the table, even if managing a twenty by twenty foot footprint inside a standard dungeon poses some hilarious logistical problems.

Practicality aside, this playtest drop opens up fantastic avenues for campaigns and one shots. Dungeon Masters running villainous parties or looking to throw a catastrophic new threat at their players now have a built in way to unleash total urban destruction. It is a wonderfully chaotic addition to the 2024 ruleset that trades subtle spellcasting for pure, unfiltered monster carnage. You can read the full breakdown over at Polygon.
