DC Studios has announced that its upcoming true-crime comedy series starring Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Grodd will be titled The People v. Gorilla Grodd and stream on HBO Max.
DC Studios has officially locked in the title and stacked cast for its upcoming expansion into serialized television, revealing that the Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Grodd project is officially titled The People v. Gorilla Grodd. Set to land on HBO Max, the eight-episode series will adopt a true-crime documentary structure with a comedic spin, following Jimmy Olsen as he investigates whether the hyperintelligent ape was wrongly convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. Series creators Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the minds behind American Vandal, are leading the project as showrunners and executive producers.
The casting lineup features returning talent from the upcoming Superman ecosystem alongside new faces. Skyler Gisondo reprises his role as Jimmy Olsen alongside Jimmy Tatro as Gorilla Grodd, with Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White rounding out the Daily Planet newsroom staff. Additional actors joining the ensemble include Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Dan Perrault, and Arian Moayed in currently unannounced roles.
According to IGN, the creative team is approaching the series not just as another standard comic book adaptation, but as an in-universe artifact meant to feel like a genuine documentary produced within Metropolis itself. While the project does not yet have a concrete release date, it represents another major swing for DC Studios as they continue to diversify the tone of their interconnected universe following projects like Lanterns.
