Dave Bautista shared a progress update on his intense weight training to achieve a Kratos-sized physique for the upcoming Prime Video God of War series.
Stepping into the boots of the Ghost of Sparta requires a staggering physical transformation, and Dave Bautista is currently deep in the trenches making it happen. As reported by Polygon, the actor shared a new social media update revealing he is three weeks into an intense weight training program with two months left to hit his target physique. Even for someone who is already built like an action star, chasing the impossibly chiseled, mountainous proportions of Kratos is a massive undertaking.
Bautista stepped into the leading role following a rocky start for the Prime Video production. Production had to reboot earlier in the summer of 2026 after original cast member Ryan Hurst suffered a bicep tear during a stunt sequence, forcing the studio to scrap several completed episodes. That early setback, combined with initial fan pushback over early set photos, put a lot of pressure on the creative team. Fortunately, Bautista's casting has been met with much higher enthusiasm from the community, though fans are still waiting to see how the live action adaptation translates the monumental scale of the 2018 game.
With Battlestar Galactica veteran Ronald D. Moore at the helm as showrunner, the first season will adapt the emotional journey of Kratos and Atreus traveling to scatter Faye's ashes. Prime Video clearly has massive confidence in the project, having already greenlit a two-season run ahead of an expected premiere window in late 2027 or early 2028. Bautista seems unfazed by the grueling preparation, telling followers his training feels like riding a bike as he gets ready for the call sheet.
