Darksiders 4 is Real, and Apparently We're Going Back to the Beginning (Again?)

Darksiders 4 is coming, and it's picking up right after the first game, which has me both excited and a little worried – are we going to see fresh takes on the familiar, or just a retread of the apocalypse? Time will tell!

Right, so THQ Nordic just dropped a bomb at their 2025 showcase: Darksiders 4 is officially happening, courtesy of Gunfire Games. And get this – it's picking up right where the very first Darksiders left off. Remember that? War, accusations, premature apocalypse? Good times. (Credit to IGN South Africa for breaking this one, by the way. Cheers, mates!).

We're talking a third-person action-adventure romp through a post-apocalyptic landscape richer in lore than your grandma's attic is in dust bunnies. Expect combat, traversal puzzles and probably more philosophical questions about the nature of balance than you can shake a celestial spear at. The big draw, as always, is playing as one of the Four Horsemen. Each with their own distinct flavor of destruction and a fighting style that'll make your thumbs ache in a good way. "Fast-paced, visceral action blending melee, fluid traversal, and supernatural abilities," they're calling the combat. Sounds about right; if it *wasn't* all those things, I reckon we'd have a riot on our hands.

Now, the kicker. The only real story detail is that this follows the OG Darksiders. Meaning… are we retreading old ground? Expanding on War's initial kerfuffle? Hopefully not just a rehash. (Though, let's be honest, I'd probably still play it). Store listings hint at online co-op for 2-4 players, alongside single-player and split-screen options. Split-screen? Fair dinkum! That's a throwback I can get behind.

For those just tuning in, Darksiders started way back in 2010 with Vigil Games. Four Horsemen, apocalypse, trying to sort out the cosmic chaos. Darksiders II followed, then Gunfire Games revived things with Darksiders III in 2018. Then Airship Syndicate dropped the top-down Darksiders Genesis in 2019. Since then, it's been crickets on the Darksiders front. Gunfire have been busy smashing it with the *Remnant* games, mind you. But hey, absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?

No release date yet, unfortunately. But THQ Nordic have opened up wishlists, so you can at least digitally queue up for the end times. But what does it *mean*? Are we going full circle? Is this a clever narrative trick? Or are they just playing it safe? I reckon we'll have to wait and see. But colour me cautiously optimistic. Just don't mess this up, Gunfire! We're counting on you to bring the apocalyptic thunder (and hopefully a few surprises along the way).
