Dark Souls 2 Mod Overhauls Multiplayer to Support Six Players

A new mod for Dark Souls 2 brings seamless six-player co-op to the PC version of Scholar of the First Sin, removing traditional summoning limits and adding proximity chat.
Dark Souls 2 is getting a massive multiplayer overhaul courtesy of modder Yui, who has previously released seamless co-op projects for Elden Ring and the original Dark Souls. Released for the PC version of Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, the new mod allows up to six players to journey together from the tutorial all the way to the final boss without the traditional interruptions of FromSoftware's standard summoning system. Deaths no longer disband the group, boss victories keep companions in the world, and multiplayer fog walls have been completely removed to create an uninterrupted session.
The project goes far beyond a simple player count increase by introducing custom items for hosting and joining sessions, rebuilding peer to peer networking using Steam technology, and adding proximity voice chat that adjusts volume based on distance. Because multiplying the player count would naturally break the game balance, Yui added dynamic enemy health scaling, restriction systems during boss fights, and an optional Cursed Soul Fragment mechanic to keep runs challenging. Fallen players enter a spectator limbo state during boss battles until the rest of the party wins or wipes.
Early adoption on platforms like Nexus Mods and Reddit has been enthusiastic as creator communities jump into full group playthroughs and test out the new networking features. While the mod is currently in alpha and uses separate save files to keep players isolated from official matchmaking servers, it offers PC players a completely new way to experience the action RPG alongside friends more than a decade after its original launch.
