Dark Horse has shared an exclusive preview of Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes, a new one-shot arriving next week that sends Hellboy and Anastasia Bransfield on a haunted romantic getaway in 1979 England.
Even the world's most famous apocalyptic entity deserves a vacation. Dark Horse is expanding the supernatural hero's romantic misadventures next week with the release of Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes. Created by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, the upcoming one-shot follows Hellboy and his archaeologist partner Anastasia Bransfield as they attempt a quiet holiday in December 1979, visiting former BPRD agents Archie and Margaret in a tiny English village.
Naturally, peace and quiet are hard to come by in the Hellboy universe. The romantic getaway quickly derails when the couple gets pulled into investigating a local ghost that has been haunting Coventry. While games and comic crossovers often lean entirely into non-stop action, this series continues to carve out space for quieter character dynamics and monster-hunting domesticity, giving fans a different angle on the iconic paranormal investigator.
Art duties for the issue are handled by Alex Nieto with lettering by Clem Robins, maintaining the atmospheric visual style that defines the franchise. Polygon has shared an exclusive look at the opening pages and Nieto's cover art, showcasing the couple's arrival before things take a distinctly paranormal turn.
