Spike Chunsoft has delayed Danganronpa 2x2 to early 2027, giving the development team extra time to polish the upcoming visual novel remake and its new Slayhem mode.
Fans waiting to dive back into Jabberwock Island will need to exercise a bit more patience. Spike Chunsoft has announced that Danganronpa 2x2 is officially moving its launch window to early 2027. In a statement on the official studio website, producer Shohei Sakakibara explained that development was initially tracking toward a 2026 release, but the team ultimately decided the extra time is necessary to deliver the best possible experience for players.
Originally slated to shake up the beloved visual novel format, the upcoming release is shaking things up by offering two distinct ways to play right from the start. Alongside the revamped Original mode, which brings the 2012 classic up to modern visual standards, the game introduces Slayhem mode. This alternate path features an entirely new scenario and a completely different storyline, giving veterans a compelling reason to return. The project also upgrades exploration by replacing the classic side-scrolling travel with a fully 3D world map, allowing for free movement and instant fast travel across the island.
Delays are never fun for a passionate community, but taking extra development time is usually the right call in an era where polish matters more than ever. Spike Chunsoft promises to share a more specific release date as development progresses through the year. Original reporting and further details on the delay can be found at Eurogamer, as covered by Vikki Blake.
