Polygon reports that Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon and writer James Siciliano developed a rigorous sci-fi mythology for the leprechaun characters in the spinoff series President Curtis.
Dan Harmon and the writing team behind the Rick and Morty spinoff President Curtis are expanding their narrative universe in unexpected directions. As reported by Polygon, recent episodes of the workplace sitcom have pushed past simple monster-of-the-week tropes to build out a surprisingly intricate world. Series co-creators Harmon and James Siciliano deliberately shifted away from cosmic sci-fi to keep threats grounded closer to home, channeling a vibe closer to The X-Files while maintaining the signature absurd humor of the franchise.
In a recent interview with Polygon, the creators broke down the extensive backstory developed for Francis O'Doyle, a half-leprechaun Secret Service agent voiced by Jim Rash. Rather than relying on traditional fantasy magic, the writers approached the mythical race through a hard science lens comparable to Star Trek. In this universe, leprechauns are ancient hominids who predate humans. Their cultural obsession with gold stems from practical metallurgy rather than simple greed, since their unique biology allows them to smelt metal directly in their stomachs.
The latest developments signal a broader shift in how the creative team approaches long-form storytelling across seasons. Unlike the frequent permanent character exits seen in the main Rick and Morty series, President Curtis embraces a sprawling network of returning players, criminal syndicates, and paranormal containment facilities. With ongoing plot threads involving matriarchal leprechaun mobs and high-stakes prison recruitment, the show is establishing a dense continuity that gives fans plenty of deep lore to unpack and speculate about online.
