Anime Expo 2026 delivered massive reveals, including the return of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, a fresh Ghost in the Shell series, and a first look at Kagurabachi.
Anime Expo 2026 just wrapped up four packed days in Los Angeles, proving once again that the convention is the premier stage for the industry outside of Japan. Studios and publishers used the floor to drop major trailers, host early episode premieres, and outline ambitious slates that bridge the gap between traditional animation and modern streaming platforms. For players and creators who treat anime as a core part of their daily entertainment diet, the announcements delivered plenty of heavy hitters. Among the biggest surprises was the return of a modern classic, as reported by Polygon.
CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger are officially bringing back Cyberpunk: Edgerunners for a second season, featuring an entirely new cast navigating the brutal streets of Night City. Attendees at the convention got an early look at the premiere episode ahead of its Netflix release this fall, with early impressions pointing to the same hard hitting emotional storytelling that defined the first outing. Meanwhile, Prime Video is rolling out Science Saru's fresh take on The Ghost in the Shell, which leans heavily into traditional hand drawn techniques inspired by the original manga. The ten episode run has already dropped its pilot, giving fans an immediate taste of what this powerhouse collaboration has to offer.
The momentum continued with major updates across the board, including a continuation for The Ninth Jedi heading to Disney Plus and Hulu this August, alongside a blistering twenty minute preview of the upcoming Kagurabachi adaptation slated for Crunchyroll next year. With heavyweight fantasy series like Frieren and Delicious in Dungeon also locking in future windows, the streaming calendar is stacked for the foreseeable future.
