After a 16-year wait, the supernatural battle manga Psyren is finally getting an anime adaptation produced by Satelight, slated for an October 2026 release on Crunchyroll following a new trailer reveal at Japan Expo.
Longtime manga fans are getting a massive win as Toshiaki Iwashiro's supernatural mystery series, Psyren, officially steps into the spotlight. Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2007 to 2010, the manga sold over four million copies during its run, yet it missed out on the global anime boom of the 2010s. Now, following an adaptation announcement in 2025, Polygon reports that Crunchyroll has dropped the first full trailer for the series during its Japan Expo 2026 panel in Paris, locking in an October 2026 premiere date.
For those discovering the title for the first time, Psyren delivers classic shonen battle action mixed with a tense survival mystery. The story follows high schoolers Ageha Yoshina and Sakurako Amamiya after they are pulled into a hostile, monster-infested alternate reality by a shadowy organization. Stranded alongside other victims, they must master unique powers to survive and find a way back home. The premise hits all the right notes for fans who love high-stakes progression and occult mysteries, which explains why the series was previously nominated multiple times for viewer polls wanting an adaptation.
This revival highlights a fantastic trend where today's booming global anime market breathes new life into finished masterworks that previously slipped through the cracks. It proves that great storytelling has a long shelf life, giving modern audiences who treat seasonal anime lineups as core social viewing events a chance to experience a beloved hidden gem for the first time. You can catch the premiere this October on Crunchyroll, while Viz Media handles the English manga release for anyone wanting to read ahead.
