Crystal Dynamics Cuts 30 Jobs in Third Restructuring Wave of the Year

Crystal Dynamics has laid off 30 employees in its third restructuring wave of 2025, though development on the upcoming Tomb Raider project remains ongoing.
Crystal Dynamics has reduced its workforce by another 30 employees, marking the studio's third round of layoffs in 2025. According to a company statement shared on LinkedIn and reported by IGN South Africa, the restructuring aims to optimize operations as the studio continues production on the upcoming Tomb Raider game. The studio stated that these choices were necessary to adapt to shifting industry realities while securing the future development of its flagship franchise and upcoming projects.
This latest reduction follows a turbulent period for the developer, which previously faced cuts in August following the cancellation of Perfect Dark by Xbox, a project Crystal Dynamics had been co-developing. Additional layoffs occurred earlier this year and in 2023 as part of broader restructuring initiatives across parent company Embracer Group. Despite the ongoing personnel changes, the studio maintains that work on the next Tomb Raider, which is being published by Amazon Games, will continue forward.
The repeated downsizing highlights the persistent instability facing development teams across the industry, even those attached to major legacy IP. As players look forward to future franchise entries and digital releases, the human cost behind these major productions remains a pressing concern for the community.
