Crymelight Mixes Hades Action With a Twisted Pop-Up Book Wonderland

FuRyu and writer Naoki Hisaya are teaming up for Crymelight, an isometric roguelike combining Hades-style combat, poker-inspired deckbuilding, and a dark pop-up book Wonderland setting.
Publisher FuRyu is back with another visually distinct mid-budget project that is already turning heads across the community. As detailed by Rock Paper Shotgun, their upcoming title Crymelight takes the familiar action roguelike formula popularized by Hades and drops it into a striking pop-up book aesthetic. Instead of playing as the white rabbit chasing Alice, players step into the shoes of Alice herself as she navigates a dark, afterlife-infused version of Wonderland to face her sins, overthrow the queen, and fight for her freedom.
The game brings a surprisingly heavy narrative pedigree to the table, with Naoki Hisaya, the writer behind the classic visual novel Kanon, penning the script. Beneath the nostalgic, warped storybook visuals lies a mix of mechanical ideas. Combat borrows heavily from the isometric hack-and-slash style of Hades, complete with area-of-effect abilities, but layers in deckbuilding elements inspired by poker hands that grant passive boons like faster dash charges.
FuRyu is also leaning hard into some eccentric progression loops, including a literal repentance system where players confess sins to transform tears into power-up items, complete with gacha-style animations. Throw in traditional tea parties alongside the underworld dungeon crawling, and you have a game of wild tonal contrasts. Crymelight is currently scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch 2, and you can already wishlist it on Steam.
