Crimson Desert Patch 1.04.00 Overhauls Difficulty and Expands the Animal Economy

Pearl Abyss drops Crimson Desert patch 1.04.00, adding new difficulty modes, pet birds, shoulder cat items, and livestock, alongside a few early bug fixes.

Pearl Abyss has rolled out a substantial new update for Crimson Desert, addressing community feedback with a fresh batch of features, quality of life upgrades, and plenty of new wildlife. Patch 1.04.00 introduces three distinct difficulty settings to the game. Players can now select easy, normal, or hard modes, with easy offering reduced incoming damage and more generous reaction windows, while hard ratchets up the challenge by slowing down healing animations. It is a welcome addition for players who want to tailor the combat pacing to their own skill level or replay moments without hitting a brick wall.

Beyond combat tweaks, the update leans heavily into animal companionship and base management. Players can now adopt pet birds by tracking down a specific quest item called the Sotdae of Bond. The patch also adds five new cat variants, lets you pet the Abyss Heuklang, and introduces name changes for both mounts and pets. For those who loved having a feline riding on their shoulder, Pearl Abyss fixed the accidental ungluing bug and replaced it with an optional item called the Sigil of Bonding. Additionally, new livestock vendors allow players to purchase cows, pigs, goats, sheep, ducks, and chickens to populate their camps and gather resources.

While the update brings plenty of charm and visual improvements, including better rendering for distant objects and atmospheric tumbleweeds in desert regions, it has brought a few initial hiccups. Players on community hubs like Reddit have reported temporary mount summoning bugs and unexpected drops in NPC trust levels. Pearl Abyss has already acknowledged these teething issues, and a hotfix is likely on the way. You can read the full breakdown of the patch notes over at Rock Paper Shotgun.
