The creator behind the controversial virtual actor Tilly Norwood is taking the technology to traditional media. Eline van der Velden and her AI-forward production studio Particle6 announced a new shortform series titled Straten Van Toen, meaning Streets of the Past in Dutch, for the Netherlands branch of The History Channel in partnership with Hearst Networks.
As reported by IGN South Africa, the project pushes generative AI further into mainstream broadcast television. While the production team is quick to emphasize that human oversight remains central to the creative process, the move continues to fuel intense discussions across the entertainment and gaming industries regarding the displacement of human talent in favor of synthetic media production.
For digital communities that watch these technological shifts closely, the expansion of AI-generated personalities from social feeds into established networks like History marks another milestone in a rapidly changing creative landscape. Whether audiences embrace synthetic hosts or push back in support of human creators, projects like this highlight just how fast production pipelines are evolving across television and digital platforms.
