Aniplex and Studio DEEN have announced a 2027 anime adaptation of Kyousuke Motomi's classic shojo manga Dengeki Daisy, bringing the 20-year-old romance mystery back to the spotlight.
Fans of 2000s manga culture have plenty to celebrate today. Aniplex and Studio DEEN have officially confirmed a brand-new TV anime adaptation of Kyousuke Motomi's beloved romance and mystery series, Dengeki Daisy. Scheduled to premiere in 2027, the project brings back a cult classic that originally ran from 2007 to 2013 in Shogakukan's Betsucomi imprint. The announcement follows a multi-day teaser countdown that sparked widespread speculation across social media, proving that the appetite for nostalgic mid-tier shojo adaptations remains remarkably strong in the current streaming era.
For those discovering the story for the first time, Dengeki Daisy follows Teru Kurebayashi, a high school student working as a school janitor after her older brother passes away. She is secretly looked after by an anonymous guardian known only as Daisy, while also dealing with Tasuka Kurosaki, her abrasive and intimidating school supervisor who clearly harbors deeper secrets. When VIZ Media brought the title to North America in 2010, it quickly found a dedicated Western audience during a peak era for shojo manga, ultimately pushing the series past five million copies in circulation worldwide.
Studio DEEN is taking the helm for the production, bringing pedigree from projects like Fate/Stay Night and Higurashi When They Cry. Director Souta Ueno, fresh off work on Days with My Stepsister, will lead the series with a focus on balancing offbeat narrative beats with grounded emotional moments. As streaming demand continues to reshape how production committees dig through past catalog IPs, this revival gives long-time followers a chance to see a foundational romance mystery finally make the jump to the screen.
