The historic 1991 concert film Rolling Stones at the Max is returning to IMAX theaters for a limited run, complete with an exclusive clip shared by IGN South Africa.
Rock history is heading back to the big screen this week. According to IGN South Africa, the landmark 1991 concert film Rolling Stones at the Max is returning to IMAX theaters for a limited engagement starting on December 10, 2025. To celebrate the reissue, an exclusive clip featuring the band performing Honky Tonk Women has been released, giving fans a fresh taste of the massive scale that defined the project over three decades ago.
Originally captured during the band's sprawling 1990 Steel Wheels and Urban Jungle tour, the film holds a unique place in entertainment history as the very first feature-length concert movie produced for the IMAX format. Long before digital streaming brought live festival sets and virtual in-game concerts directly to our phones and consoles, this project aimed to recreate the sheer electricity of a stadium crowd through giant screens and powerful sound systems.
For modern music fans and digital natives used to high fidelity audiovisual experiences across multiple platforms, seeing rock royalty captured at the absolute peak of their arena-filling power offers a fascinating look at the roots of modern event cinema. You can check out the exclusive clip and find ticketing details directly over at IGN South Africa, while the full run hits select IMAX screens for a very limited time.
