Civilization 7's Update 1.5.0 drops a heavily redesigned Real Earth map, clever diplomacy fixes, and a new leader DLC from Firaxis.
Firaxis is rolling out Update 1.5.0 for Sid Meier's Civilization VII, bringing a completely reworked take on the classic Real Earth map alongside crucial quality of life improvements. According to senior game designer Taymoor Rehman, the new True Start Location Earth map cuts away dead space like empty northern tundra and vast southern oceans to make room for tighter, more engaging play spaces. Regions like Japan and Hawaii have been magnified to comfortably fit multiple civilizations, and new navigable rivers add fresh strategic layers to your global domination runs.
Beyond geography, the update delivers a massive relief for strategy players by overhauling diplomacy. You can now spend influence points to avoid getting dragged into unwanted wars when your allies call for backup, though repeat requests will quickly drain your reserves if you try to stay neutral. If two of your allies go to war with each other, however, you still have to pick a side. Interface upgrades also introduce a radial ruler overlay, making it much easier to track tile distances for building bonuses and wonder placement.
Dropping alongside the free patch is the new paid Hall of History DLC, which introduces Queen Elizabeth I and George Washington as playable leaders, alongside England, Babylon, and the Gauls. As Rock Paper Shotgun notes, this update keeps momentum high for the strategy titan as the studio looks ahead to next year's major Arc of Tomorrow expansion and the upcoming Earthrise cosmic endgame. For community members deep into alternate history roleplay or high-stakes multiplayer lobbies, these tweaks offer plenty of reasons to spin up a new campaign tonight.
