Firaxis has announced that Civilization 7 will receive a free major update in 2027 called Arc of Tomorrow, introducing the highly requested Atomic Age and new strategic mechanics.
Firaxis has confirmed that Civilization 7 will receive its biggest update yet in 2027, bringing the long-awaited Atomic Age to the strategy game for free. Revealed during the PAX West panel and reported by Game Rant, the Arc of Tomorrow update aims to breathe new life into the 2025 release following a mixed reception on Steam. By introducing a fourth playable era spanning the 1950s to the 2050s, the developers are directly addressing one of the community's most requested features.
The upcoming expansion introduces a range of fresh mechanics designed to deepen mid-to-late game strategy. Players can look forward to expanded nuclear gameplay with a new take on mutually assured destruction, multilateral diplomatic agreements, and proxy warfare via enhanced city-state interactions. Other additions include empire management tools that let you convert settlements into city-states, great works of film featuring specialized film crews, and manufactured goods like enriched uranium.
Alongside the free Arc of Tomorrow update, Firaxis also announced the Earthrise paid expansion, which focuses on taking the space race across the solar system. Before those arrive next year, update 1.5.0 launches later this month to introduce the True Start Location Earth map. For a community that treats long-form strategy games as primary social and entertainment hubs, these upcoming shifts offer a compelling reason to jump back into the campaign map.
