Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film The Odyssey has finally received its first public trailer, showcasing Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and a star-studded cast ahead of its July 2026 release.
Christopher Nolan is finally giving fans a proper look at his next massive project. Universal Pictures has released the first official trailer for The Odyssey, bringing the legendary epic to the screen with a stacked cast that includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and Anne Hathaway as Penelope. The footage arrived online just before Christmas, offering our best look yet at the director's take on Homer's foundational text. While the internet immediately went to work dissecting the footage, many viewers noted the predictable pitfalls of video compression on platforms like YouTube, which might explain why Nolan originally kept the teaser strictly exclusive to movie theater screens ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth.
Beyond the headline trio, the adaptation features an incredible ensemble cast including Charlize Theron as Circe, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal. The trailer treats viewers to sweeping mythic visuals and a tense exchange between Odysseus and Penelope, capped off with a very brief, shadowy glimpse of the cyclops Polyphemus. It is a massive undertaking that adds to a busy pop culture landscape where the classic Greek tale continues to find new life, following recent projects like Uberto Pasolini's film The Return and the viral success of Epic: The Musical.
For those looking to bypass the compression issues on video platforms, cleaner footage is currently rolling out across the film's official social channels like X. The wait for the final product will not be short, but anticipation is already peaking across streaming and film communities alike. The Odyssey is officially scheduled for a massive theatrical release in IMAX on July 17, 2026, as reported by Polygon.
